New York, NY (UCCA) -- Supporting the Ukrainian World Congress’ initiative, on May 6th, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), the central organization representing the views and convictions of over one million Americans of Ukrainian descent, sent a letter strongly urging UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to not participate in the upcoming Victory Day commemorations in the Russian Federation on May 9, 2015.

UCCA Co-Authors Letter to President Obama

New York, NY (UCCA) – Following a series of ongoing discussions with the AJC, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), the representative organization of the over one million Americans of Ukrainian decent, initiated a joint letter, together with other ethnic organizations, to underscore the fact that the risks for the “United States and the wider democratic world could not be higher in the ongoing aggression by the Russian Federation and its proxies against Ukraine’s territorial integrity.” The letter, addressed to President Barack Obama, underscored the belief that “the United States must prevail in defending the rights of Ukraine and other nations in the region to live free of unwanted outside involvement, to protect their sovereignty and independence.”

The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), the representative organization of the over one million Americans of Ukrainian descent, strongly condemns Russia’s transnational abduction and subsequent unlawful detention of Nadiya Savchenko, former Ukrainian Air Force pilot, Iraq War Veteran, Member of Ukraine’s Parliament and delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and calls for her immediate release.
