Today’s meeting came on the heels of Speaker Paul Ryan and Chairman of Ukraine’s Parliament, Andriy Parubiy, meeting last week and signing a Memorandum of Understanding reaffirming the U.S. Congress – Verkhovna Rada Parliamentary Exchange (CRPE). Also today, the United States Treasury sanctioned 38 additional individuals & entities related to Russia's continued occupation of Crimea.

REQUEST THE WHITE HOUSE TO INVITE PRESIDENT POROSHENKO

Print PDF

Ukraine has been in the midst of wide-scale attacks since March 2014 when Russian Federation forces forcibly overtook the Crimean Peninsula and have subsequently waged a hybrid war in eastern Ukraine.  The security and stability of the entire Central and East European region is at stake unless immediate action is taken by the United States, NATO, and the European Union to resolve the constant threat to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Support from the United States is crucial in transforming Ukraine into a secure, vibrant democracy that is fully integrated into Euro-Atlantic structures.  The acknowledgement of Ukraine’s reform achievements and the existing strategic partnership between the two countries should be manifested by extending an invitation to President Poroshenko to visit Washington, DC.   Below, please find a letter to the White House requesting President Trump invite the President of Ukraine for an immediate visit.  Additionally, you can submit your letter online at: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/submit-questions-and-comments

The President

The White House

Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

As an American of Ukrainian descent, I was proud to watch the people of Ukraine dedicate themselves to democratic values during the Revolution of Dignity several years ago.  Unfortunately, since that time, Ukraine has withstood the onslaught of Russian aggression waged upon its borders in the form of cyberattacks, outright invasion of sovereign territory, and an unrelenting informational disinformation campaign.

The United States, as a strategic partner of Ukraine, ought to acknowledge Ukraine’s recent sacrifices by inviting President Petro Poroshenko to Washington, DC before your eventual meeting with Vladimir Putin.  Such an acknowledgment would send strong signals to the Ukrainian people about the values of partnership with democratic nations such as ours.  Ukraine needs the assistance of the United States to transcend that country into a viable nation within the community of democracies.  A visit by President Poroshenko would manifest such a resolve.

Sincerely,

#SupportUkraine! - Update

Dear Friends of Ukraine,

The Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS), the Washington DC public affairs bureau of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), is continuing its #SupportUkraine! campaign in 2017 by sponsoring its second-in-a-series of advocacy events in Washington, DC.

The second #SupportUkraine! event will be a one-day “Ukrainian Day” advocacy fete on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.  A briefing session about US-Ukraine relations and an overview of pending congressional legislation will be held at 9am at the United Methodist Building (near the Supreme Court).  Participants will be provided briefing materials prior to the advocacy event to familiarize themselves with congressional actions regarding Ukraine.

Following the briefing session, "Ukrainian Day" participants will walk the halls of Congress and meet with their respective congressional offices to advocate issues of concern.  UNIS is honored that the Ukrainian American Youth Civics Group, as part of the Ukrainian Heritage School of Greater Delaware Valley (the tri-state metropolitan region of Philadelphia), will once again participate in the "Ukrainian Day" advocacy event.  The next generation of civic leaders in the Ukrainian community initiated a campaign of contacting Congress to join the Congressional Ukrainian and Senate Ukraine Caucuses.  Membership in the Caucuses is an important element to continued efforts to #SupportUkraine!

Later that evening, a "Ukrainian Day" reception will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Senators and Members of Congress will also be recognized with the “Friend of UNIS” award for their contributions to the security and development of Ukraine.

A registration form for the “Ukrainian Day” advocacy event is provided below.  For a schedule of events for the “Ukrainian Day” advocacy event, please contact UNIS at 202-547-0018 or the UCCA National Office at 212-228-6840, or email Tamara Olexy at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The event will be held the same week as the Speaker of Ukraine's Parliament, Andriy Parubiy, and Acting Minister of Health, Ulana Suprun, will be meeting with U.S. government officials in Washington, DC.

A Ukraine “Report Card” conference will also be held onThursday, June 15, 2017 (day after "Ukrainian Day").  For the conference program and registration form please contact Tamara Olexy at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  As space is limited, please RSVP at your earliest convenience to assure attendance.

This is a very important event for the Ukrainian community as we continue to focus on Ukraine's security and Euro-Atlantic integration.  Our goal in the advocacy event is to seek support for Ukraine's immediate needs - military assistance; increased sanctions against Russia; deter Russian propaganda and disinformation; and, humanitarian assistance for Ukraine's nearly 2 million internally displaced persons.

PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO HAVE YOUR COMMUNITY REPRESENTED IN WASHINGTON FOR THIS ADVOCACY EVENT!

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact UNIS at 202 547-0018, or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Looking forward to seeing you in Washington in mid-June 2017!

New York, NY (UCCA) – On Saturday, April 26, 1986, the worst nuclear power plant disaster in history began with the rupture of Reactor #4’s containment at the Vladimir Ilyich Lenin Nuclear Power Station. Conceived to be one of the largest nuclear power plants in history during its construction in the 1970s, Soviet planners located this megastructure 11 miles northwest of the city of Chornobyl, Ukraine, and approximately 62 miles north of Ukraine’s capital and most populous city, Kyiv.
