Organizational Background:

Founded in 1940, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Inc. (UCCA) is America’s oldest umbrella association of Ukrainian organizations, representing an estimated one million Americans of Ukrainian descent. As a not-for-profit, educational and charitable institution, the UCCA has sought to preserve and disseminate the rich and intellectual cultural heritage of Ukrainian Americans. The UCCA operates two offices in New York and Washington, DC and has over seventy branches throughout the United States. Additionally, the UCCA functions through councils and standing committees with specific duties and budgets. Such committees include: Civic Education Council, Feature Film Production, Council on Aid to Ukrainians, Educational Council, and the English-language scholarly journal, The Ukrainian Quarterly. The UCCA takes an active role in the political and cultural events unraveling in present-day Ukraine including hosting delegations of International Election Observers, conducting nation-wide civic education programs, and publishing and distributing educational materials, to name a few.

UCCA Internship Program:

The internship at the UCCA National Office offers students the opportunity to better acquaint themselves with the Ukrainian American community and Ukraine specifically. The UCCA takes great care to tailor the internship to each student’s interests and skills in an effort to provide the best work experience possible.

Main tasks of the UCCA Internship Program:

  • Researching and writing policy papers and backgrounders on Ukraine-related issues;
  • Providing information about Ukraine and the work of the UCCA to its members and the American public at large;
  • Attending seminars and briefings;
  • Contributing to several UCCA publications, including our monthly bulletins;
  • Conducting public relations campaigns on topical issues related to Ukraine;
  • Researching grant opportunities; and,
  • Office administration

The UCCA requires that each student actively participate and work a minimum of 15 hours a week (at your convenience). This is not a paid internship, however, the UCCA will help accommodate each student’s specific requirements to receive school credits, if applicable, for his or her work at the UCCA National Office.
