The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), the largest grassroots representation of Americans of Ukrainian descent, calls on high-ranking U.S. government officials, sports fans and leaders of industry, to follow the lead of the United Kingdom, Poland and Iceland, and boycott the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

*|END:IF|* *|IF:ARCHIVE_PAGE|* Furthermore, FIFA sponsors of the 2018 World Cup, including Adidas, Coca-Cola, Hyundai–Kia, VISA, Anheuser-Busch, and McDonald's, as well as U.S. broadcasters FOX Sports and Telemundo, should be informed of the inexcusable and illegal actions undertaken by Russia in the run-up to hosting soccer's biggest tournament.

“The United States needs to send a clear & loud message to Russia that there are consequences for not respecting international law and order,” stated UCCA President Andriy Futey.  “We cannot tolerate this type of behavior and need to condemn the Russian Federation by boycotting the 2018 FIFA World Cup!”

UCCA maintains that it is morally reprehensible that an international sporting event designed to promote international goodwill and harmony will be held in a country that continues to blatantly disregard the rule of law:

• Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and the further invasion of Eastern Ukraine represent a daily violation of all conceivable international law and standards (with over 10,000 killed and over 2,000,000 displaced);
• On 17 July 2014, Russian forces shot down the civilian airliner Malaysian Airlines MH17, resulting in the deaths of 298 innocent victims, including one confirmed American citizen;
• On 4 March 2018 in Salisbury, England, former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were exposed along with an additional 48 people to a Russian nerve agent.

For these reasons and more, including the 100+ political prisoners held in Russian prisons, Russia stands against the values that unite the Euro Atlantic community. It is up to the rest of the world to unite in defense of the international order and bring the responsible parties to justice, not celebrate them with a soccer tournament.
 

Український Конґресовий Комітет Америки (УККА), найбільше громадське представництво американців українського походження, закликає високопоставлених урядовців США, фанатів спорту, і провідників цієї галузі, наслідувати приклад Великої Британії, Польщі та Ісландії і бойкотувати Чемпіонат Світу з Футболу в Росії у 2018 році.

Крім того, спонсори Чемпіонату світу з футболу міжнародної федерації футбольних асоціацій (ФІФА), що включає Адідас, Кока-Кола, Хюндай-КІА, ВІЗА, Ангойзер-Буш, і МакДональдз, а також коментатори телекомпанії США Фокс Спорт і Телемундо, повинні бути проінформовані про невиправдані і незаконні дії, здійснені Росією, напередодні гостювання найбільшого турніру футболу.

«Сполучені Штати Америки повинні надіслати чітке і сильне послання Росії, що неповага і недотримання міжнародного права та порядку призведе до наслідків» сказав президент УККА, Андрій Футей. «Ми не можемо дозволити таку поведінку і засуджуємо Російську Федерацію, бойкотуючи Світовий Чемпіонат з Футболу 2018 року в Росії!»

УККА надалі твердить, що це є морально неприпустимо, що міжнародна спортивна подія, створена для поширення міжнародної доброї волі і гармонії, буде проходити в країні, яка відверто продовжує іґнорувати міжнародні правила закону:

• Російське  незаконне захоплення Криму та подальші вторгнення на Східній Україні являються  щоденними порушеннями усіх достовірних, міжнародних законів та стандартів (з більш ніж 10,000 вбитих і більш ніж 2,000,000 переміщених осіб);
•  17 липня 2014 року російськими збройними силами був збитий цивільний літак Малайзійської авіакомпанії  MH17, в результаті чого загинуло 298 невинних жертв, у тому числі один американський громадянин;
• 4 березня  2018 в місті Солсбері у Великій Британії, колишній російський агент Сергій Скрипаль і його дочка Юлія були отруєні російською нервово-паралітичною речовиною, разом  із 48-ма невинними особами.

З вище викладених причин, включаючи понад 100 політв'язнів перебуваючих в російських в'язницях, Росія виступає проти цінностей, які єднають Евро-Атлантичну громаду. Від решти світу залежить, щоб об'єднатися  в обороні міжнародного порядку і притягнути до правосуддя відповідальну сторону, а не обдаровувати футбольним турніром.*|END:IF|*

The hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation continues with an escalating vengeance claiming casualties on an almost daily basis. As of today, the Russian Federation has seized 7.2% of the territory of Eastern Ukraine and its military actions have resulted in 11,000 deaths including 2,500 civilians, and 23,000 wounded. Currently in Ukraine, there are 1.6 million internally displaced persons, whereas the Russian Federation’s military invasion of Ukraine has negatively impacted the lives of close to 4.4 million Ukrainians living in the Donbas and resulted in the greatest humanitarian crisis since the end of the Second World War. More than 100 Ukrainian hostages in the Donbas and over 60 Ukrainian political prisoners continue to languish in prisons in the Russian Federation and Crimea.
       Despite this grim reality, the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement was ratified, Ukrainian citizens now enjoy visa-free travel to EU Schengen states, and sanctions against the Russian Federation remain firmly in place in response to its illegal occupation of Crimea and military invasion of Eastern Ukraine.
        The United States and Canada have Magnitsky legislation in place which can be used to address human rights violations around the world, including in Crimea. Similar legislation has been adopted by Estonia, Great Britain, Latvia and Lithuania.
        The United States and Canada have also authorized the delivery of defensive lethal weapons to Ukraine.
         The primary role of the UWC is to help the international community understand the utmost importance of its ongoing support for the Ukrainian people who, in defending the territorial integrity of their state, are also defending the core values and principles of western civilization. There is no organization that rivals the Ukrainian World Congress in delivering this message.
        The world is on our side, but we need to do more. We must raise the level of engagement and support, particularly in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and the human rights violations resulting from the Russian hybrid aggression; secure the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission to the Donbas and an OSCE monitoring mission to Crimea; intensify actions countering the blatantly intrusive disinformation campaign affecting many world countries; ensure that sanctions are strengthened; and encourage continuing support for reforms in Ukraine.
        In conclusion, I would like to share with you a story that has inspired me to do more. Last summer in Lviv, UWC’s 50^th anniversary commemorations included a visit to the Lychakiv cemetery where we paid tribute to the fallen heroes of Ukraine. Following the memorial service, I approached an elderly blind gentleman standing motionless at a gravesite. The grave was that of his 22-year-old son who had died defending Ukraine’s Eastern border. I could not imagine the pain of this broken man standing in front of me whose fate was to survive his young son. I could find no words to ease his pain. All I could do was promise him that the 20-million strong Ukrainian diaspora would do everything to ensure that his son did not die in vain and Ukraine regains its territorial integrity.
        The UWC is a non-governmental organization and receives no funding from government sources. The UWC relies solely on the generosity of its donors and member organizations who believe that a world with an independent, democratic, prosperous European Ukraine is a better, safer world; who believe that every Ukrainian, wherever he or she may live, deserves to live in dignity and freedom; who believe that the more than 11,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice defending Ukraine in the last four years have not died in vain.

Світовий Конґрес Українців (СКУ) разом зі своєю мережею у 53-х країнах світу продовжує ефективно впливати на зв’язки міжнародного співтовариства з Україною та сприяти реалізації безмежного потенціалу українського народу.
        Гібридна агресія Російської Федерації продовжується з усе більшою силою та майже щодня приносить нові жертви. На теперішній час Російська Федерація захопила 7,2% території Східної України, а її військові дії спричинили 11,000 смертей, що включають 2,500 мирних жителів, а також 23,000 поранених. Зараз в Україні налічується 1,6 мільйона внутрішньо переміщених осіб, а військове вторгнення Російської Федерації в Україну негативно вплинуло на життя близько 4,4 мільйона українців, що проживають на Донбасі, та призвело до найбільшої гуманітарної кризи з часів другої Другої світової війни. Понад 100 українських заручників на Донбасі та більше 60 українських політв'язнів досі перебувають у в’язницях у Російській Федерації та в Криму.
        Незважаючи на невтішні реалії, Угоду про асоціацію між ЄС та Україною було ратифіковано, українські громадяни тепер користуються безвізовим режимом до країн Шенгенської зони, а санкції проти Російської Федерації у відповідь на нелегальну окупацію Криму та військове вторгнення до Східної України залишаються в силі та є стабільними.
         Сполучені Штати Америки та Канада запровадили так званий Закон Магницького, який можна застосовувати до порушників людських прав у всьому світі, в тому числі й у Криму. Схоже законодавство прийняли Велико‑британія, Естонія, Латвія та Литва.
Сполучені Штати Америки та Канада також схвалили постачання в Україну оборонної летальної зброї.
         Головна роль СКУ полягає в тому, щоб допомогти міжнародній спільноті усвідомити надзвичайну важливість постійної підтримки українського народу, який, боронячи територіальну цілісність своєї держави, також стоїть на захисті основних цінностей та принципів західної цивілізації. СКУ не має собі рівних у досвіді представлення цих питань на міжнародній арені.
         Світ на нашому боці, але ми повинні робити ще більше. Ми повинні збільшувати рівень взаємодії та підтримки, зокрема щодо подолання в Україні гуманітарної кризи та порушень прав людини внаслідок російської гібридної агресії; щодо можливості розміщення миротворчої місії ООН на Донбасі та моніторингової місії ОБСЄ в Криму; щодо активізації заходів з протидії надзвичайно нав'язливій російській дезінформаційній кампанії, яка торкається багатьох країн світу; щодо політики посилення санкцій проти Російської федерації та щодо заохочення до подальшої підтримки реформ в Україні.
Насамкінець, я хотів би поділитися з вами історією, яка надихнула мене добиватися значно більшого. Минулого літа у Львові, в рамках відзначення 50-річчя СКУ, ми побували на Личаківському цвинтарі, щоб віддати шану загиблим героям України. Після панахиди я підійшов до літнього сліпого чоловіка, який нерухомо стояв біля однієї з могил. Там був похований його 22-річний син, що загинув, захищаючи східні кордони України. Я не міг уявити собі болю цієї людини, на чию долю випало пережити свого молодого сина. Я не міг знайти відповідних слів, щоб полегшити його біль. Все, що я міг зробити, – це пообіцяти, що 20‑мільйонна українська діаспора зробить все, щоб могти сказати, що його син загинув недаремно і щоб Україна стала територіально цілісною.
         СКУ є неурядовою організацією і не отримує жодного державного фінансування. СКУ покладається виключно на щедрість своїх жертводавців та складових організацій, які вірять, що світ, в якому є незалежна, демократична, процвітаюча європейська Україна – це кращий та безпечніший світ; котрі вірять, що кожен українець, де б він не жив, заслуговує на гідність і свободу; котрі вірять, що більше 11,000 чоловіків і жінок, які пожертвували своїм життям, захищаючи Україну протягом останніх чотирьох років, загинули недарма.
