#GivingTuesday

Today is #GivingTuesday and people around the world are thinking about how to give back. As a nonprofit organization, and the largest grassroots representation of Ukrainians in America, UCCA relies heavily on our donors for support.

Over the past 5 years, it has become clear that the work of Ukrainians in America and our many organizations is needed more today by our family and friends in Ukraine than in recent memory.  To help foster a greater understanding of, and stronger advocacy for, Ukraine during this critical period, UCCA needs your help.

By making a fully tax-deductible donation today, your financial contribution will positively impact our community for years to come. Only with your continued support, can UCCA continue to pursue our longstanding mission of increasing the importance and role of the Ukrainian American community and presenting our community's desire to aid the people of Ukraine.

We hope you will donate as generously as you can in support of ongoing cultural, educational, and humanitarian activities that emphasize Ukrainian heritage in America and promote closer and deeper cooperation between our two countries is an unprecedented global movement of generosity.

PS: Your company may also have a matching gift program, so please check with your HR representative. You might be able to double your impact!

#GivingTuesday
On December 9, 2019, the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia will meet in Paris for the Normandy Format Summit. As they prepare for the first such meeting since October 2016, UCCA, the largest representative body of over 1.5 million Americans of Ukrainian descent, stands with the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) in reiterating our position that Russia must be compelled to end its military aggression against Ukraine.

Russia and its proxies continue to wage a bloody war against Ukraine, having illegally occupied Crimea and invaded parts of Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region for over 5 years. This military invasion, and the subsequent armed occupation of Ukrainian sovereign territory, not only constitutes a daily violation of all international law and standards, but more importantly, has resulted in over 13,000 casualties, over 30,000 wounded, and close to 2 million internally displaced.

Following the election of President Zelenskyy, UCCA stated in an open letter the Ukrainian American community’s longstanding principle regarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine, which includes the lawful return of territories occupied by Russian forces. Following Ukraine’s agreement to abide by “the so-called Steinmeier formula” in October, UCCA President Andriy Futey re-affirmed that “Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, which include Crimea and regions of the Donets’k and Luhans’k oblasts, were, are, and will be integral parts of independent Ukraine.”

Therefore, together with the UWC and our international partners, UCCA calls upon Germany, France, Ukraine and its allies to maintain a clear and unequivocal position that:
  1. No elections take place in the Russian-occupied regions of the Donets’k and Luhans’k oblasts until all Russian troops, mercenaries, weapons and material are withdrawn from Ukrainian territory, Ukraine regains complete control of the Ukrainian side of the Ukraine-Russia border, and the conclusion of a normalization period which would allow for the peacefully return of the displaced residents of the Donbas region to their homes and the reestablishment of civil society and democratic institutions;
  2. Ukraine’s strategic course for Euro-Atlantic and NATO integration, as set out in Ukraine’s Constitution, is non-negotiable and immutable;
  3. International sanctions on Russia must continue to be strengthened and expanded until Russia de-occupies sovereign Ukrainian territory, including Crimea and regions of the Donets’k and Luhans’k oblasts;
  4. There can be no negotiations with the leaders of the Russia-controlled terrorist organizations of the so-called Donets’k and Luhans’k People’s Republics (DNR and LNR);
  5. Russia bares full responsibility for rebuilding war-torn Ukraine and paying reparations to all affected by their war against Ukraine and the downing of Malaysian airliner MH17.
UCCA reaffirms that Ukraine must never agree to Russian demands regarding Ukrainian elections, and any elections held in Ukraine must stand in accord with the constitution and laws of Ukraine
